Taiwan wants European manufacturers to work with its technology sector on artificial intelligence and drones, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said, presenting trusted supply chains as a security priority at a Taipei conference Saturday.

At the Formosa Club’s annual conference, Lin pointed to Taiwan’s semiconductor, AI-server and emerging drone industries as potential counterparts for European companies with strengths in precision manufacturing and industrial technology. He said cooperation in these fields calls for trusted partners because they involve national security and critical infrastructure.

CNA reported that Lin described Taiwan’s developing drone supply chain as covering equipment, key components and cybersecurity standards. CNA also reported that he cited Russia’s war against Ukraine, saying economic dependence can give countries a means to pressure others.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Lin’s Oct. 10-14 visit to Poland included plans for memorandums of understanding on a proposed technology park and semiconductor resilience. The park is led by the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA). MOFA said it could support cooperation in electric vehicles, smart cities and AI.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Jan. 22, 2026, calling for stronger security and defense cooperation with Indo-Pacific partners, including Taiwan, particularly in drone technology and related industries. The measure passed 483-68, with 76 abstentions.

MOFA says the Formosa Club was established in October 2019 by chairs of Taiwan friendship groups in the European Parliament and the parliaments of the United Kingdom, Germany and France. CNA reported that MOFA and the club had scheduled a forum on Taiwan-Europe cooperation in AI and drone technology for Tuesday, Oct. 27.
