A 300-megawatt solar facility in Karnataka has entered service for the Solar Energy Corporation of India, extending renewable capacity operated by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL).

TPREL, a subsidiary of Tata Power, announced Nov. 5 that its project in Koppal had been commissioned. TP Saurya, a wholly owned TPREL subsidiary, developed the plant.

The company projects annual generation of 810 million units of renewable electricity and estimates the facility will reduce carbon emissions by 103,820 tonnes a year.

The plant uses solar trackers and TP580HG10NB bifacial modules. TPREL said the trackers follow the sun to optimize generation.

TPREL also reported that about 16 women professionals made up nearly 40% of the project-site workforce. They included site managers and site engineers.

In its announcement, TPREL put its total renewable utility capacity at 12 gigawatts after commissioning, with about 7.2 GW operational.
