Teamsters Local 350 says 40 employees at Republic Services’ Salinas, California, operation voted for union representation as the workers seek a contract with the waste company.
Local 350 announced the result Oct. 22 and identified the group as drivers, mechanics and heavy equipment operators in its Salinas service area. The union said they serve commercial and residential customers. Joe Muñoz, whom Local 350 described as a Republic worker of 20 years, said workers would “secure a strong contract that gives us fairness on the job.”
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) lists a representation case filed Sept. 16, 2026, as open and covering 40 employees. Its unit description includes full-time and regular part-time drivers, driver helpers, mechanics, technicians, heavy equipment operators, maintenance personnel and driver trainers. The case page names Allied Waste Services of North America, LLC, doing business as BFI Waste Services of Salinas / Republic Services of Salinas, and N Leasing Company, LLC, doing business as Republic Services of Salinas, as employers. The docket displays a Sept. 25 notice of election and a stipulated election agreement, but no vote tally or certification. The NLRB cautions that its activity list may not show every action in a case.
Republic Services reported revenue of $16.591 billion for 2025, a companywide figure that does not break out its Salinas operation.
Local 350 Secretary-Treasurer Robert Sandoval said, “This is just the beginning of their battle.” The union did not provide proposed contract terms or a bargaining timetable, and the NLRB page lists no next scheduled action.
