World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that violence in northern Ethiopia is pushing its fragile health system toward collapse, Anadolu Agency reported.

Anadolu Agency reported that Tedros made the warning in a post on X. His remarks covered reported civilian deaths in Amhara and Tigray as well as constraints on local health services.

Hospitals lacked enough health workers, medicines and equipment, Tedros said, while ambulance services were limited. Insecurity was obstructing deliveries of life-saving medical supplies to some areas, and the WHO was working with U.N. partners to send additional supplies to affected regions, he said.

At Jaari 2 displacement camp in Amhara, Tedros said he had seen reports that a newborn and other children were among those killed. He also cited reported deaths among people seeking food in Rama, Tigray, calling the accounts “deeply disturbing.”

EconoTimes previously covered an Anadolu headline reporting 12 civilian deaths in a Tigray drone strike while people gathered grain.
