By July 2026, Tencent executive 汤道生 said China was averaging more than 500 trillion token calls a day, tying the increase to growth in AI applications.

At a Shenzhen keynote, he put the start-of-2024 average at 100 billion calls a day. The July 2026 total was more than 5,000 times that level, he said.

He cited Tencent’s Workbuddy as a workplace AI example. Separately, he described AI applications moving past routine document collaboration, citing business analysis and operations alongside market research and marketing planning and execution.

汤道生 said AI agents were now necessary to raise employee productivity. He said companies could strengthen their position through more accurate decisions and faster execution, while firms that fail to keep pace risk falling behind.

Daily token-call totals and computing capacity are distinct measures, a distinction discussed in EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of AI token-use estimates and computing capacity.
