Tesla is asking Chinese customers for a 332,000-yuan deposit to reserve the next-generation Roadster, while its U.S. site sets different payment totals for two versions.
China's reservation page currently offers only the Performance configuration. The amount is a reservation deposit, and Tesla's terms do not identify a purchase price.
Tesla's U.S. reservation page lists a $5,000 initial payment for both Performance and Thrust. The remaining $45,000 for Performance or $245,000 for Thrust is due within 10 days, bringing the respective totals to $50,000 and $250,000. Tesla limits Rocket reservations to invited customers.
Tesla's terms state that a reservation is not an order to buy the car and do not specify its eventual purchase price.
The Roadster appeared at its Oct. 15 presentation after Tesla postponed an outdoor event planned for Oct. 1 because of a severe-weather forecast, as EconoTimes reported before the presentation.
