‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 11 is reportedly facing cancellation possibly due to cast salary disagreements. Meanwhile, it was rumored that Jim Parsons may be leaving the show in favor of other projects.
Although season 11 has been renewed on CBS, Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady’s long-running American sitcom is reportedly facing cancellation due to internal conflicts. According to Moviepilot, this is not the first time the series has been hounded by cancellation rumors. Initially, the show faced cancellation because of salary disagreements between main stars Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki against the show’s producers.
Parsons, Cuoco, and Galecki received at most $60,000 per episode each for the first three seasons. They received an increase of $200,000 per episode by season 4 and by season 7, they received $350,000 per episode by the seventh season. By season 8, the three main actors renegotiated their contracts for $1 million per episode, as well as more back-end money from the series.
It was previously speculated that Cuoco refused to renew her contract for season 11 for personal reasons. She allegedly planned to take a break from acting and focus more on her family. However, it was revealed that the 31-year old American actress has signed back on to return as Penny alongside Galecki’s Leonard.
Meanwhile, according to Game N Guide, Parsons is reportedly ditching his run as Sheldon in favor of committing to his other role on Freeform’s ‘The Monarch is Going to Shit.’ He is also reportedly working on other projects including a prequel spin-off featuring a young Sheldon Cooper as well as another sitcom called ‘Lance 2.0’ with boyfriend Todd Spiewak.
Parsons plays child prodigy and theoretical physicist Sheldon. Since his character’s debut on 2007, Parsons has gained several accolades for his performance including Emmy Award wins for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014.
The series also stars Simon Helberg as Howard, Kunal Nayyar as Raj, Melissa Rauch as Bernadette, Mayim Bialik as Amy, and Kevin Sussman as Stuart.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 11 was renewed on CBS. The series primarily centers on five friends living in Pasadena, California.
