‘The Exorcist’ season 1’s episode 9, entitled “Chapter 9: 169,” is set to feature the Rance family under a new threat following Casey’s exorcism. Meanwhile, father Marcus will race against the clock to prevent a tragedy from happening before the Pope’s scheduled visit.
The synopsis for episode 9 posted on Spoilers Daily reads, “On the eve of Pope Sebastian’s visit to Chicago, Marcus (Ben Daniels) and his companions race to avert a potential tragedy. Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) is offered a life-changing opportunity, but will the sins of the past endanger his future within the church?
Meanwhile, as the Rance family attempts to recover from their most recent ordeal, a new problem threatens to tear them apart.”
In the next episode, a new challenge is set to threaten the recuperating Rance family following Casey’s (Hannah Kasulka) successful exorcism. After Pazuzu is drive out of Casey’s body and the young girl is taken to the hospital, it seemed that the possession cycle has finally been broken.
It didn’t help that Angela (Geena Davis) managed to help Tomas and Marcus exorcise the demon from her daughter since the evil entity’s real target was actually Angela. It proceeded to gain control of her towards the end of episode 8, entitled “The Griefbearers.”
According to International Business Times, Angela killed her mother Chris (Sharon Gless) under the demon’s influence by snapping her neck throwing her down a staircase. It seems that Angela has spiraled back to the childhood torment she was desperate to escape from.
As the penultimate episode, it will be interesting to watch as the Rance family attempt to rise above a greater evil threatening to take over Chicago as dark forces come into play. It is more than likely that Fathers Marcus and Tomas will have a more powerful evil to fight against in the next episodes.
‘The Exorcist’ season 1’s episode 9, entitled “Chapter 9: 169,” is scheduled to air on Fox on December 9, 2016. It will be followed by episode 10, entitled "Chapter Ten: Three Rooms," scheduled for December 16.
