‘The Flash’ season 4’s official synopsis was recently revealed by The CW ahead of the season 3 finale scheduled to be released on May 23, 2017. It will feature the much-anticipated showdown between Barry and his nemesis Savitar. The synopsis seemed to suggest the survival of Iris West for the next season.
The upcoming finale for season 3 of The CW’s television adaptation of the DC character of the same name is set to feature the impending showdown between Barry Allen a.ka. The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Savitar. However, season 4’s synopsis has already been unveiled ahead of season 3’s episode 23, titled “Finish Line.”
An excerpt from the official synopsis for season 4 posted on Cosmic Book News reads, “But when Barry used his extraordinary abilities to travel back in time and save his mother’s life, he inadvertently created an alternate timeline known as Flashpoint; a phenomenon that gave birth to the villainous speed god known as Savitar, and changed the lives of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Wally West (Keiyan Lonsdale) forever.
“With the help of his adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), his lifelong best friend and love interest Iris West (Candice Patton), and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs — Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), C.S.I Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and an Earth-19 novelist named H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) — Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it.”
It seems that there may still be hope for Candice Patton’s Iris West considering the hint in the synopsis. Barry failed to save her life from being snuffed away by Savitar despite his best efforts but fans have been speculating that Iris supposed death may not be what it seems.
According to Moviepilot, it was rumored that Cavanaugh’s H.R. Wells disguised himself as Iris to protect her and sacrifice his life instead. The synopsis seemed to hint the possibility of this theory - that Iris may have survived and Savitar killed off another character in her place. However, the synopsis also described H.R. as “an Earth-19 novelist” suggesting that H.R. may have survived Savitar’s attack as well.
‘The Flash’ season 4 was renewed on The CW last January 2017. Season 3’s finale, titled “Finish Line,” is scheduled to air on the network on May 23, 2017.
