‘The Lego Batman Movie’ recently premiered its official trailer during the Warner Bros. panel at the 2016 Comic-Con. The hilarious trailer introduced Robin the Wonder Boy, who was revealed to be Batman’s adopted son.
According to the Independent, the newest trailer for the upcoming ‘The Lego Movie’ spin-off film dropped during Warner Bros. panel at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con. It featured the first full look at the titular caped crusader as well as introduced his young companion Robin.
In the trailer, Batman was revealed to be an eccentric loner who needed to take up the responsibility of parenting the boy he adopted during a charity auction. Director Chris McKay described Robin as a lovable and optimistic character. He said, "Robin is a super-positive kid who always sees the glass as half full. Really, at the end of the day, he just wants a hug. Michael brings the sweetness and honesty." Michael Cera is set to voice the orphan Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin the Boy Wonder.
The trailer also showed other characters in Lego form including Batman’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth as well as the villainous Joker and his lady sidekick Harley Quinn. McKay teased more details about Joker saying, "The Joker sees himself on the same level as Batman, a peer, at the top of the game. But Batman says that’s not the case, which sends Joker into a spiral trying to prove to Batman that he is indeed the greatest enemy."
Will Arnett reprises his role from ‘The LEGO Movie’, returning to voice Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman. Will’s Batman was one of the key characters in the original 2014 3D-animated adventure-comedy film directed and written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film received positive reviews from critics and earned numerous accolades including a BAFTA award win for Best Animated Film as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Film.
According to The Numbers, Lord and Miller’s film grossed $457.73 million worldwide on a production budget of $60 million. It quickly expanded into a franchise with ties to the Lego brand.
In addition to Arnett, Ralph Fiennes stars as Alfred while Zach Galifianakis stars as The Joker. Rosario Dawson is also set to voice Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl while Mariah Carey will provide the voice of Mayor Marion Grange. The film follows Batman as he tries to defend Gotham City from the Joker’s planned takeover.
‘The Lego Batman Movie’ is an upcoming 3D-animated action-comedy and superhero film directed by Chris McKay based on a screenplay by Seth-Grahame Smith. It is produced under DC Entertainment, Village Roadshow Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, Animal Logic, Warner Bros. and Warner Animation Group. It is scheduled to be released on February 10, 2017.
