‘The Man in the High Castle’ producer and cast member talk about the possibility of a third season despite no news of renewals on Amazon Video as of the present.
During an interview with Bustle, producer Isa Hackett addressed the possibility of a season 3 renewal for the dystopian alternative history television series loosely based on Philip K. Dick’s 1963 novel of the same name. Hackett said, "Yes, we're very much hoping there will be season three… We haven't even begun getting into what that might look like, obviously, we have to get the green light."
Luke Kleintank, who plays Joe Blake - the son of a high-ranking Nazi official, also admitted his enthusiasm for a possible season 3. He said, "Third season’s looking pretty good.” As for season 2, he said, "We're showing more of the world and slowly putting in pieces of that. I'm surprised and intrigued to see how all that just opens up a whole new Pandora's box."
Season 2 followed Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos), Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank), and Frank Frink (Rupert Evans) as they continued to fight for their own versions of the truth among the disorder. The Man in the High Castle himself (Stephen Root) was also revealed.
Episode 1 picked up right after the thrilling events of season 1. Juliana was held by the Resistance, who think that she is a Nazi traitor after helping Joe escape. She was also actively pursued by Japanese authorities. Juliana also managed an encounter with The Man.
Joe, on the other hand, struggled with his newfound hero status among the Nazis. He journeyed to Berlin to reunite with his high-ranking Nazi official father. Meanwhile, Juliana’s boyfriend Frank was determined to help his friend Ed (DJ Qualls) get out of prison and enlisted the help of art dealer Robert Childan (Brennan Brown).
Executive producer David Zucker was asked about his goals for season 2’s storyline during an interview with Entertainment Weekly to which he replied, “I think in season 1, there was a deliberate attempt to ensure the audience had a chance to acclimate to what this alternative history was.”
He continued, “It’s such a fascinating world to explore, given all that’s familiar yet truly altered, so the second season was a chance to find some close relationship and interest in the individual character journeys, to begin to expand that world and intensify the character stories. Season 2 ultimately was seeing how each of our individual players plays a role, often unwittingly, and how the stories follow.”
When asked about other possible storylines to explore in season 3, Zucker replied, “That’s a hard question to answer, because we’re [planning on] bringing a new showrunner to the show for season 3. That’s going to give us an opportunity to not only bring in a fresh perspective into the series-building on all that has transpired to date, but I think what we’re trying to do right now is really examine and evaluate what’s worked effectively and what through-lines we feel we can continue to build on. That’s the work that’s going to be done in the next few months.”
‘The Man in the High Castle’ season 2 premiered on Amazon Video last December 16, 2016. The series takes place in an alternate timeline in the year 1962.
