“The Walking Dead” season 9 will mark the end of Rick Grimes on the show. In July, fans learned that Andrew Lincoln is leaving the show, so it only means that Rick will also depart from the long-running zombie-themed suspense drama.
Viewers are curious as to how Rick Grimes will leave. Will he die? Will he turn into a walker? Will he go far away to fulfill a mission? Fans also want to know when Rick is actually leaving. Will he make it until the finale or he will appear in just a few episodes?
Some of the questions were finally answered as AMC unveiled the trailer for the pilot episode. Firstly, it was revealed that Rick will only be in the premiere episode, which will last for 90 minutes. He will be gone after that. However, the trailer did not show any hint with regards to the manner of Rick's exit.
AMC might want the fans to keep guessing until “The Walking Dead” season 9 airs in a few weeks. Of course, they need to make the first episode suspenseful, so it is understandable why the production team and the cast are keeping this major detail a secret for now.
As per TV Line, “The Walking Dead” season 9 will begin at a time when the war against Negan and his group ended a year and a half ago. In this period, Rick and the rest of the survivors seemed peaceful as they started rebuilding.
Part of the synopsis reads: “As time passes, the communities confront unexpected obstacles, danger, and of course, walkers, but nothing quite prepares them for the formidable force they are about to encounter, which threatens the very idea of civilization that our survivors have worked so hard to build.”
The trailer also revealed a significant detail as it introduced the mysterious Whisperers. At the end of the five-minute clip, a man and a woman were shown covering their selves with mud so they would not be detected by the passing horde of Walkers. Slumped on the mud and just a meter away from where the enemies were marching, the two suddenly heard a whispering voice which clearly said, “Where are they?”
The Whisperers are another group of human survivors who can walk freely in the midst of the zombies, without being recognized, because they cloak themselves with the skin of dead zombies. “The Walking Dead” season 9 will surely show more of them in the next episodes following the pilot.
“The Walking Dead” Season 9 will premiere on Oct. 7 at 9 p.m.
