“The Winds of Winter” is George RR Martin’s most anticipated book today. This is because the novel is long overdue and should have been released a long time ago.
Broken promises
Still, the 71-year-old author is hoping for understanding, and he even admitted once that he is sluggish and probably had writer’s block at some point, so he wasn’t able to finish it on time. He also made several promised dates already, but these were missed.
He was not able to publish the book for at least two times, so he issued a statement before saying that from now on, he will refrain from mentioning a date. He explained that he wants to avoid disappointing the fans when he can’t publish “The Winds of Winter” so he will not make promises again.
“You're disappointed, and you're not alone,” GRRM wrote on his blog in 2016. “My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me.”
Last year, Martin also said that he knows how upset his fans are and shared that he, too, is upset with himself. He wants to release the book on time, but it seems that his schedule and mood won’t allow him to finish the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
In any case, for those who are not aware, Martin’s very first due date for “The Winds of Winter” was in 2015 but even when 2016 came, he was not able to finish it yet. Thus, he is frustrated as well. He completed the first five books with just three-year intervals so the case with “TWOW” is quite disappointing.
The book’s expected release date
Despite his earlier statement that he will not mention a date anymore, George RR Martin made a new promise last year. He said that “The Winds of Winter” will be in his hand by July 29 or August 1. He did not directly say these dates but these are the days when he was supposed to arrive at the 2020 WorldCon in New Zealand where he was invited.
