“The Winds of Winter” is not yet finished and it has been eight years since the last book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” was released. While fans are surely disappointed for the long delay of the anticipated “TWOW,” it was revealed that George RR Martin himself is disappointed as well because he has not completed the book six in the “ASOIAF” series and yet HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is already at its final run and the last season just premiered this past weekend.
In his interview with 60 minutes, George RR Martin laments the overtaking of “Game of Thrones” TV series over “The Winds of Winter.” The 70-year-old author told the show host Anderson Cooper, “I published a fifth book “A Dance With Dragons” in 2011 when the series was just going on the air, so I was like five books ahead.”
He added, “I was completely confident that I would have the entire series finished. ‘Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’ would be out before they got to them.
Martin said he wished the books were completed before the “Game of Thrones” finale but things did not go as planned. But then again, he said that except for some secondary characters, the ending of the HBO series will not be very different from how the “A Dream of Spring” will conclude so this means that “The Winds of Winter” will also feature stories not far from the TV version. With this reveal, then it is possible that fans can see many spoilers after watching “GoT.”
At any rate, in another recent interview, George RR Martin said that since the “Game of Thrones” finale is already here, he is speeding up writing for “The Winds of Winter.” Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the author said, “I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that ‘Winds of Winter’ isn’t finished. And I’m mad about that myself.
He went on to say that writing for “TWOW” has been going smoothly so it seems that he finally overcame his writer’s block that pestered him in the last few years. He implied that he picked up speed for the sixth book in “ASOIAF” series when he said, “Writing on ‘The Winds of Winter’ has been going very well lately, so knock wood. It’ll be done when it’s done.”
While he did not mention any estimated date for “The Winds of Winter” release, knowing that he is focused on it right now is enough to comfort the fans. At least, George RR Martin is making some progress and perhaps, he will be done in no time.
Meanwhile, rumors that “The Winds of Winter” is coming really soon emerged after George RR Martin tweeted a photo of himself recently. He said that the image is a headshot and fans assumed that it seems to be a photo that will appear in the cover of “TWOW.”
