Taipei, Taiwan, July 27, 2017 -- “The big gets bigger” is a trend in the Internet industry, in which the network traffic from the top-10 Internet content providers has exceeded half of the global network traffic. Therefore, Taiwan needs a forum for exchange and a data exchange platform to help bring in the service from international industry heavyweights and enable Taiwan local small companies to be seen at the same time, so that local companies can take deeper roots in Taiwan while benefiting from a bigger picture of the world, and international industry heavyweights can better understand the Taiwan market to increase the internet connection speed in Taiwan and improve the local internet experience.
The first ever Taiwan Peering Forum(TPF), anticipated by many for years, is going to take place in the afternoon on August 7 on the 3rd floor at Le Meridien Taipei. The event amounts to a significant party for the network communications industry as senior executives and important policymakers from internationally renowned telecom service carriers, internet service providers, internet content providers, and content delivery networks will be present, and the forum participants from Taiwan will be able to meet with important leaders from the network communications industry to discuss the details of cooperation. Yahoo, Google, Cisco, and Facebook among others have confirmed their attendance to the forum; 300 senior executives and relevant influencers are expected to take part in the forum.
The Taipei Internet eXchange (TPIX)--the only international-class internet exchange center in Taiwan --is the primary organizer of the 2017 Taiwan Peering Forum (tpf2017.tpix.net.tw). At present, 8 of the world’s top-10 internet exchanges are TPIX members, and the renowned members include cloud service provider Cloudflare, internet content provider Akamai, as well as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Facebook among others. The upcoming forum is intended to bring in overseas experiences in internet exchange centers and related mechanisms to strengthen Taiwan’s cooperation with more international industry heavyweights. During implementation of the upcoming event, TPIX will continue assuming its impartial, neutral, and open role as an internet exchange center to provide its members an open platform for effective exchange in the most economical way.
Managing its TPIX for years, Chief Telecom has been steadfastly strengthening the international visibility of this internet exchange as well as its member involvement. “We look forward to enthusiastic participation in the 2017 Taiwan Peering Forum by relevant government organizations, academia, and decision makers from fixed line and mobile service providers as well as internet service providers in Taiwan,” said Johnny Liu, President of Chief Telecom. “We are committed to cooperation with these partners to together develop Taiwan into a world-class broadband hub, and we believe Taiwan will become a focus of world attention again once we successfully converge broadband and digitalization in Taiwan much earlier than expected.”
