At London’s 2026 AIM Awards on Oct. 15, Thor Explorations Ltd. won the Diversity Champion Award, adding a workforce honor for the operator of Nigeria’s Segilola gold mine.
Thor’s 2025 filing counted 2,026 people in employment connected to Segilola during the year. Nigerian nationals made up 99% of that group. The company also reported that 86% of the project’s procurement budget was spent in Nigeria, supporting local businesses and supply chains.
A separate measure in Thor’s 2024 sustainability report shows women accounted for 8% of employees at Segilola Resources Operating Limited, the subsidiary that operates the mine. Thor describes recruitment, mentorship and training measures intended to help women advance there. That percentage applies to the subsidiary in 2024, rather than to Thor’s workforce across all its operations.
The AIM Awards’ criteria for Diversity Champion cover equality and inclusion in leadership and workplace practices, as well as training and career development. The organizer’s winners list names Thor but gives no company-specific explanation for the choice. Its review period for the 2026 awards ran from Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026.
Thor’s investment in training also reflects a staffing need it has identified in Nigeria. Its 2023 sustainability report cited a shortage of locally available mining skills as a reason to develop workers’ capabilities. The company previously recorded a win in the labor category of Mining Indaba’s 2024 Responsible Resourcing Awards.
Thor credited its employees in a company post acknowledging the latest award. The gold producer trades on AIM and the TSX Venture Exchange under THX and has other projects in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
