President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised Dangote Group’s domestic investments at an Abuja business summit, with BusinessDay reporting that the projects span industries tied to Nigeria’s productive capacity.

BusinessDay said Tinubu’s praise followed a visit to Dangote Group’s pavilion at the just-concluded 32nd Nigeria Economic Summit, held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. The outlet reported that Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the president. The summit, it said, brought policymakers, business leaders and investors together to discuss output, jobs, productivity and how growth can reach more Nigerians.

BusinessDay said Tinubu pointed to the breadth of Dangote’s operations while arguing for more private investment to expand productive and commercial activity. The report said Dangote Group has investments in cement manufacturing, fertilizer production, sugar refining, salt processing and petroleum refining. The outlet described the portfolio as a source of domestic value creation and jobs; it also said the projects support local supply chains and efforts to reduce dependence on imported products. BusinessDay cited foreign-exchange conservation and stronger industrial capacity as additional potential gains.

The report said the group’s operations serve construction, agriculture, manufacturing and energy. BusinessDay described Dangote Group as Nigeria’s second-largest employer after the federal government. It also pointed to the Lagos refinery and petrochemicals complex, saying the facility may increase domestic petroleum processing and reduce the country’s need for imported refined products.

Tinubu said his administration was seeking to make public and private investment possible while encouraging productive work, according to BusinessDay. He said: “there is no shortcut for economic development.” The report said he also defended the government’s economic reforms and emphasized cooperation in industry and a larger private-sector role in growth.

The summit’s 2026 theme was “Growth That Works: Delivering Jobs, Productivity and Shared Prosperity.” BusinessDay said participants discussed steps to raise output, create employment and distribute the gains of economic growth among more Nigerians.
