Online sales analysts at Deal Tomato track deals on popular consumer electronics, gadgets, home and outdoors gear throughout the Cyber Monday sales period. Cyber Monday shows no signs of slowing down with retailers gearing up to offer more deals than ever before. Shopper numbers and total spending in 2017 are expected to be up on previous years. Since 2010 average consumer spending during the holiday season has been on the rise, increasing at 5% per annum. Information provided by the National Retail Federation (NRF) indicates that spending reached close to $700 billion in 2016.
The Black Friday sales week has transitioned over the years from an in-store sales day to a week long event with purchases just as likely to be made online as in physical stores. During Black Friday 2016 more customers shopped online than in store, according to a survey undertaken by the National Retail Federation.
Online sales began in the week leading up to Black Friday, which fell on November 24th this year, and continue through to Cyber Monday on November 27th.
