Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) says TotalEnergies will operate two offshore Malaysian gas fields with a 30% stake in each after completion; Reuters reported a combined estimate exceeding 6.5 trillion cubic feet for Malaysia LNG.

The fields are Lang Lebah and B14, off Sarawak. KUFPEC said its Malaysian subsidiary, KUFPEC Malaysia Ltd., reached development agreements with TotalEnergies, PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) and PETRONAS. The agreements require regulatory approvals and customary completion conditions.

After completion, the stated ownership split for each field is 30% for TotalEnergies, 25% each for KUFPEC and PTTEP, and 20% for PETRONAS. TotalEnergies would serve as operator under the announced terms.

The agreement describes shares in the fields. TotalEnergies' Malaysia portfolio separately lists a 30% operated interest in Block SK310, where B14 is located. KUFPEC's announcement does not detail how that block-level stake relates to the field allocation.

Reuters reported that TotalEnergies expects the combined developments to make more than 6.5 trillion cubic feet of gas resources available for Malaysia LNG. PTTEP estimates Lang Lebah alone contains 5 trillion to 6 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, a separate measure and scope from the combined-project figure. PTTEP's 2025 annual report says it is re-engineering the Lang Lebah project to improve its economics.

Lang Lebah is in Block SK410B, about 90 kilometers offshore Sarawak. Earlier company disclosures listed PTTEP and KUFPEC with 42.5% each in the block and PETRONAS Carigali with 15%. PETRONAS said in 2023 it was arranging engineering work to move Lang Lebah gas to facilities in Bintulu.

KUFPEC CEO Essa Al-Maraghi said the partnership advances the company's effort to bring an international operator into the projects and improve their development prospects and value. Regulatory approvals and customary completion conditions are the next stated steps before the ownership terms take effect.
