‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ actor Mark Wahlberg joins Michael Bay and the rest of the cast and crew for filming in North East England. New behind-the-scenes photographs from the London film set tease epic car stunts.
According to Chronicle Live, production for director Michael Bay’s upcoming fifth installment in the ‘Transformers’ cinematic series will be moving from London to North East England. Wahlberg, together with cast and crew members, are set to film in specific locations in the county of Northumberland as well as Newcastle.
The county will host the film’s latest scenes in Alnwick and Bamburgh from Thursday through Saturday. An estimated 200 crew members will be settling in for the shoot that would boost local economy in the process.
Northumberland County Council’s cabinet member Coun Val Tyler said, “There is no doubt that the spin-offs of such a big budget movie could be enormous and will be felt throughout the local tourism industry and economy… History proved this much when Harry Potter was filmed in Alnwick. At present there are 200 crew members staying in accommodation in the area and spending money in local shops and restaurants.”
Coun Tyler added, “In the longer run, the film will bring the type of international publicity for the area that no amount of advertising could buy. It is fantastic that they have chosen our beautiful county as a film location.”
Bay was filming action-packed scenes in the streets of London just recently. New photographs posted on The Daily Mail showed a host of cars used during filming including a red and black MacLaren 570, a bright yellow Chevrolet Camaro, a black and orange Lamborghini Centenario, and a silver Aston Martin DB11. It was reported that these cars took to the streets for the filming of a police chase scene that also involved a Lexus and a police Range Rover.
The cars are robots in disguise as many of the Transformers characters are set to return. These Autobots to be featured are Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Crosshairs, Drift, Hound, Hot Rod, and Sqweeks. Decepticons making an appearance on the big screen include Megatron, Barricade, and Onslaught.
Mark Wahlberg is set to reprise his role as lead human protagonist Cade Yeager, who was first introduced into the franchise in the 2014 film ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ also directed by Bay. The film received generally negative reviews upon its release but soon became a commercial success after grossing $1.1 billion on a production budget of $210 million, according to The Numbers.
Wahlberg is leading a cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner, Laura Haddock, Tyrese Gibson, Ken Watanabe, and Peter Cullen.
‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ is an upcoming 3D action-adventure and science-fiction film directed by Michael Bay and written by Matt Holloway, Art Marcum, and Ken Nolan. It is intended as the fifth installment in the highly popular cinematic series based on the Hasbro and Tomy toy line of the same name.
The film, produced by Hasbro and Paramount Pictures, is scheduled to be released on June 23, 2017.
