U.S. President Donald Trump granted clemency to 30 people this week, including Emory Jones, a longtime associate of rapper and business mogul Jay-Z, according to White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson.

Johnson announced the latest clemency actions in a social media post on Friday, saying Trump approved them on Thursday. Johnson, who serves as the White House official overseeing clemency efforts, said Jones previously spent nearly 16 years in federal prison on drug-related charges.

Jones was released from prison in 2010 after Jay-Z intervened on his behalf. The rapper wrote a letter to a federal judge seeking a reduction in Jones' sentence, helping draw attention to his case.

Following his release, Jones built a career in entertainment and fashion. He has worked as an executive at Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, and later co-founded the Paper Planes clothing brand.

Jones was among 30 people who received clemency from Trump in the latest round. The New York Times reported that the recipients also included a former Philadelphia union leader who had been convicted of bribery and a former U.S. Navy sailor who was imprisoned for firearms offenses.

The actions add to a growing number of pardons and sentence commutations issued by Trump since he returned to the White House for his second term in January 2025.

Trump has granted pardons or commutations to more than 1,700 people during his current term. Pardons generally remove the legal consequences of federal criminal convictions, while commutations reduce or end sentences without erasing the underlying convictions.

The latest Trump clemency decisions highlight the administration's continued use of presidential pardon powers across a range of federal cases. Jones' inclusion has attracted particular attention because of his longstanding ties to Jay-Z and his subsequent roles at Roc Nation and Paper Planes.
