U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly predicted that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will step down, intensifying speculation about a potential leadership change within the Labour Party. In a post published on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump criticized Starmer’s handling of key issues, particularly immigration and energy policy, while claiming the British leader’s tenure is nearing its end.

“Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom,” Trump wrote. He argued that Starmer had performed poorly on immigration and energy, specifically calling for greater support for North Sea oil production. Trump concluded his message by wishing Starmer well.

The comments come at a time of increasing political uncertainty in the United Kingdom. Reports from the Observer suggest that Starmer could announce a timetable for his departure as early as Monday, as pressure continues to build within the Labour Party. Downing Street has not yet issued an official response to either Trump’s remarks or the growing speculation surrounding Starmer’s future.

Starmer’s leadership has faced significant challenges in recent months, with internal divisions weakening his authority. The situation escalated after former Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham secured victory in a key parliamentary by-election in the Makerfield constituency. Burnham’s return to the House of Commons is widely seen as positioning him for a potential leadership challenge under Labour Party rules.

Political analysts view the development as a critical moment for Labour, with questions growing over whether Starmer can maintain control of the party amid mounting opposition from influential figures.

Trump’s remarks also highlight reported tensions between Washington and London. Although Starmer initially worked to maintain strong relations with the Trump administration, disagreements over foreign policy have reportedly strained ties. According to reports, one major point of contention has been Starmer’s reluctance to fully support U.S.-led military operations in the Middle East.

If Starmer resigns, the Labour Party would launch a leadership contest, potentially paving the way for the United Kingdom to appoint its seventh prime minister in just ten years. The outcome could significantly reshape the UK political landscape and influence future relations with international allies, including the United States.
