The U.K. government has decided to refer Sky UK Limited’s planned purchase of ITV M&E Holdings Limited for a Phase 1 investigation, replacing the provisional position it had set out in October.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published letters on Nov. 4, telling legal representatives for Sky and ITV plc that the culture secretary had decided to refer the planned purchase for a Phase 1 investigation. The notices concern Sky UK Limited’s anticipated acquisition of ITV M&E Holdings Limited.

DCMS’s Oct. 15 letters outlined a provisional referral and named Ofcom and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to examine the deal. EconoTimes previously covered that provisional position.
