HM Treasury published the chancellor’s letter setting the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee’s remit on Wednesday, Oct. 28, under a recurring statutory process.

The government describes the document as the chancellor’s letter to the Bank’s governor setting the committee’s remit. It appears under the Budget 2026 heading.

The Bank of England Act 1998 directs the Treasury, in each 12-month period beginning June 1, to state how it defines price stability and outline the government’s economic policy.
