U.S. long bond futures rose on Tuesday after a lower Oct. 12 intraday reading, while 20- and 30-year Treasury yields fell, giving markets a fresh reading on long-term government borrowing costs.
Cestrian Capital Research, Inc. said its chart showed the contract at 103-03 at 8:05 a.m. ET on Oct. 12, near levels seen in 2002-03. That was an intraday reading.
The 20-year Treasury yield declined to 5.47% on Tuesday from 5.53% on Monday. The 30-year yield fell to 5.42% from 5.48%, Treasury data show. Both yields remained below their Oct. 7 readings of 5.71% and 5.67%, respectively.
Treasury’s auction schedule lists a reopening of 20-year bonds for Oct. 21, with settlement on Oct. 23. The Federal Reserve’s next listed policy meeting is scheduled for Oct. 27-28.
