The National Association of REALTORS® said pending home sales fell 7.3% in September, while another weekly measure also showed weaker demand, pointing to softness at distinct points in the U.S. homebuying process.

The association, known as NAR, said its pending-sales index was 11.3% below September 2025. The index counts existing homes with signed purchase agreements that have not yet closed.

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported that total mortgage applications declined 5.3% in the week ended Oct. 16. Its measures reflect requests for purchase or refinance financing, rather than completed sales. EconoTimes previously covered the weekly application decline.

NAR scheduled its October pending-sales report for Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. ET.
