September retail and food services sales in the United States totaled $745 billion, up 0.8% from August, while gasoline station sales rose 6.4% and sales excluding those stations increased 0.2%.

Compared with September 2025, total sales were 6.3% higher and sales excluding gasoline stations were up 4.5%. Sales in the third quarter exceeded the year-earlier quarter by 5.5%.

The updated estimate for August puts its total month-over-month gain at 1.3%, versus the prior 1.1% reading. The figures account for seasonal, holiday and trading-day effects, but exclude price changes, so they do not measure inflation-adjusted sales volume.

EconoTimes previously covered the 0.8% increase alongside producer-price data in its earlier report on September retail sales.
