A phone call between senior UAE and Jordanian officials followed the deadly shooting inside Hamoud Church, as the Emirates backed Amman’s security response, WAM reported.

UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi, who also serves as minister for foreign affairs and expatriates, WAM reported. The attack took place Oct. 23.

Sheikh Abdullah denounced the attack and conveyed the UAE’s support for Jordan. He also offered condolences to victims’ families and hoped those injured would recover quickly, according to WAM.

Jordan’s Public Security Directorate said the shooting occurred during a funeral and reported seven deaths and 34 injuries. It said 27 of the wounded remained under medical care.

The UAE had already condemned the attack in an earlier statement. Sheikh Abdullah said the Emirates backed Jordan’s steps to maintain stability and safeguard everyone in the country, from citizens and residents to visitors.
