The United Arab Emirates condemned the shooting at a funeral in Jordan’s Karak Governorate, where the Public Security Directorate reported seven deaths and 34 injuries, and reiterated its opposition to violence, extremism and terrorism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack conflicted with the UAE’s opposition to acts that threaten security and stability. It expressed sympathy for affected families and Jordan, and hoped the injured would recover quickly.

Jordan’s Public Security Directorate reported seven deaths and 34 injuries. It said gunmen fired at Hamoud Church during a funeral and officers were searching for the attackers. The directorate also said 27 of the wounded remained under medical care.

Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya described the attackers as extremists. Authorities had not publicly announced their identities or a motive. AFP has described attacks on places of worship in Jordan as rare, an assessment included in EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of the shooting.

King Abdullah II wrote on X that the attack would bring “the harshest retaliation,” according to EconoTimes’ report on his response.
