The United Nations has verified 32 civilian deaths across Yemen's Taiz governorate from Aug. 1 to Oct. 19, while road closures and insecurity strain food supplies and basic services in Taiz city.
The United Nations Human Rights Office said 14 children were among those killed and 115 civilians were injured during the same period. The count covers the whole governorate.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said Houthi forces had closed the only supply route between Taiz and Aden, obstructing aid. He urged access for relief deliveries and safe passage for civilians.
United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Laurent Bukera said road closures and insecurity were disrupting deliveries. Prices for the food and fuel still available in Taiz had more than doubled, he said.
Bukera said shortages threatened hospital power and medical oxygen availability, while the city's water production had fallen by half. The World Health Organization said access problems were hampering deliveries to 12 Taiz hospitals short of fuel and essential medicines.
The Taiz Military Axis Command reported an offensive in al-Misrakh district, south of Taiz city. Türk urged all parties to protect civilians as fighting approached populated areas.
