Yemen’s Taiz Military Axis Command said 129 Houthi fighters were killed over 48 hours as government forces pressed an offensive in a province linking the country’s north and south.

The command put the number of wounded Houthi fighters at 176 and said ground combat and airstrikes contributed to the toll. It reported 13 strikes against Houthi positions and arms stores Monday evening. The casualty figures and strike count remain unverified.

Taiz lies on a route between Aden, the government’s interim capital, and central and northern Yemen. The command said troops and local fighters continued their offensive in al-Misrakh district, south of Taiz city, on Monday. It also reported a raid on the al-Aqrud front.

The Taiz offensive was already in its second day when a separate strike on a security training center in Shabwa took place Monday. The Associated Press reported that the Shabwa attack killed 60 people, citing three Yemeni officials.

Anadolu Agency reported that the Houthis had not immediately commented on the Taiz claims.
