UNICEF Bangladesh said 15,095 out-of-school adolescent girls and young women secured employment through a project it carried out with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), reporting the figure as the initiative closed.

The project enrolled 17,934 participants across seven districts from 2022 to 2026. Of those, 17,505 completed training, according to UNICEF. The participants were marginalized girls and young women who were out of school.

Learners received instruction in occupational and transferable skills, along with support connecting them with work opportunities. With KOICA’s support, UNICEF worked with Bangladesh’s Bureau of Non-Formal Education to broaden flexible learning pathways and strengthen government capacity through technical assistance.

At the closing event, BRAC, ESDO and UCEP were recognized for their contributions as implementing partners, as were participating communities.

“When a girl gains skills, she gains choices,” said Gillian Mellsop, UNICEF Representative a.i. in Bangladesh.
