WASHINGTON, DC, July 27, 2017 -- Today, as the Senate continues to debate healthcare proposals that could rob millions of Americans coverage, U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) President and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu again called on Congress to abandon its dangerous plans and work with the nation’s mayors.

“Most mayors, from both sides of the aisle, are very practical and know that we need to bring everyone to the table to get a good result, and that’s not what’s happening right now in Washington,” Mayor Landrieu said. “The latest score of the so-called ‘Skinny Repeal’ estimates that 16 million people will lose their coverage and individual market premiums will increase by 20%. We all agree that we need to improve parts of the ACA to ensure access to cheaper and better care for the American people. But the Senate’s current approach does nothing to help, in part because it’s being driven by a small group of Senators talking to themselves.”
“Mayors across America have a message for Washington: ‘bring together governors, mayors, business leaders and experts and start over. Let’s start working together in a bipartisan way so that we can deliver on the promise of giving more Americans better health care for less money.’”
