US Presidential Election Series: Clinton used taxpayers’ funds for Clinton foundation

A new allegation got added to the Clinton Scandal this week that former president Bill Clinton, husband of this year’s Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, used tax-payers' funds to pay for the staffs at Clinton foundation and also for the purpose of buying IT equipment for the foundation. However, these transactions were done taking the advantage of the existing “Former Presidents Act”. So it was done legally but unjustly to the taxpayers.

According to this law, former presidents are entitled to certain benefits that include, a pension for the President, lifetime protections from the Secret Service, transition expenses to a new office from the White House and funding for the President’s stuff, and also the travel expenses.

According to the revelations by Politico, which is available here, http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/bill-clinton-used-tax-dollars-to-subsidize-foundation-private-email-support-teneo-227613

  • Bill Clinton maintained 22 staffs compared to 3-4 maintained by many Presidents and many of them worked for the Clinton foundation but used draw salaries from the taxpayers’ funds allocated under FSA. At least 13 of them worked for the foundation but never received any benefits as all remunerations and federal benefits were given from taxpayers’ money.
  • In addition to that, Politico investigations found that expensive information technology equipments were purchased such as intranet Quorom, a Lockheed Martin database system that was used by Bill Clinton’s office as well as the foundation. Another invoice from the purchase of a Dell server indicates that the bills were sent to Office of Former President Clinton, while the equipment was shipped to the Clinton foundation.
