A CNN poll this week showed that Donald Trump, the Republican nominee is leading Hillary Clinton by 2 points nationally. The average of polls from realclearpolitics.com shows that Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump by 3.1 points and in a four-way race, the gap is just of 2.1 points. By any measure, and from the sentiment surveys, it is quite clear that the race will be tight. The following states could really make a difference.
- Ohio: No GOP candidate has ever become the President without winning Ohio and the good news is that Donald Trump is doing well there. Ohio has 18 electorates to offer.
- Florida: One of the biggest prizes with its 29 electoral offerings. Clinton is leading here with 2.1 points but that is not too great considering she has spent around $34 million in ads here.
- Virginia: Clinton has a strong lead here with 5 points. Virginia offers 13 electorates.
- Pennsylvania: If Trump can win Pennsylvania, he will win the election. The State has 20 electorates on offer. However, Clinton is leading here with 6.5 points margin.
- North Carolina: This state with 15 electorates would be crucial for Clinton. Obama won it in 2008 but lost here in 2012. In 2008, for the first time in three decades the state voted for the Democrats.
- Wisconsin: Winning here would be big for Trump as no republican has done so since Ronald Reagan in 1984. But as of now, Clinton is leading here with 5.3 points. Wisconsin offers 10 electorates.
- Iowa: Trump is leading here but the state has only 6 electorates on the offering.
- Nevada: Despite Latinos being large parts of the population, the battle in this state is tight. Clinton is leading by just 2.3 points. The state has 6 electorates to offer.
- Colorado: This is one state where Clinton is leading in double digit figures. It has 9 electorates to offer.
- Michigan: This state remains crucial with 16 electorates on offer but likely to be a difficult state for Trump.
- Georgia: Despite a higher number of black voters, Trump is keeping it tight in Georgia. Hillary is just leading him by 1.6 points.
