The Republican establishment, which includes senator like John McCain, Mitt Romney, and to some extent house speaker Paul Ryan, which tried their very best to undermine the candidacy of Donald Trump has fallen to the GOP candidate. McCain initially joined the ‘Never Trump’ initiative, given out speeches saying why Mr. Trump is not suitable to become the President, ultimately had to seek the endorsement of Mr. trump to win his won election. The Bush family, which rejected Trump’s Presidency, saw lots of supports from other lawmakers initially but now they fell they are more alone than ever.
Paul Ryan, who initially said that he is not there yet to support Mr. Trump, received the same treatment from Mr. Trump during his own re-election and the Republicans called on trump to support him. Yet after Mr. Trump’s lewd comments surfaced, he said that he won’t be defending or wholeheartedly endorsing Mr. Trump. But this week, he came out saying to fox news anchors that he is fully supporting Donald Trump as well as the other GOP candidates.
While Mr. Trump and the GOP leaders are likely to find common grounds, a Trump win without any major support from the party leaders would return to haunt those who failed to support him. Notably, the Republican Party, which spent almost $42 million for Mitt Romney in 2012, didn’t spend any dollar for Donald Trump’s campaign this year.
