U.S. under Trump Series: Trump’s support base to erode if he wages war on Syria

Geopolitical tensions remain heightened as the NATO allies are blaming Syrian President Bashar al Assad for the latest chemical attack on the Syrian people and it looks like President Trump will be breaking one of his core promises and will be joining the endless war in the Middle East and African region just like his predecessors George Bush, who invaded Iraq and Barack Obama, who is to blame for Libya.

During his campaign, President Trump bashed the prior government for spending trillions of dollars in the Middle East’s endless war and it looks like he is ready to spend some more in Syria.

On September 5th, 2013, then the real estate magnate Donald Trump tweeted, “AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!” and followed up on 7th September, “President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your "powder" for another (and more important) day!” and now President Trump tweeted, “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”

While his tax policies, along with his homeland security policies remain very popular, if he wages a war on Syria, his support base is sure to erode as many of his supporter would see this as a major deviation from what he said in the past. Many Americans supported him for his anti-war stance and when it looked like he was going to change that, one of his vocal supporter at Fox News, Tucker Carlson showed what some of his supporters feel like - BETRAYED!
