Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) said a Russian jet-powered drone struck Kharkiv overnight Oct. 27-28, injuring five people, including a 4-year-old child, and damaging buildings in the Osnovianskyi district.

The SES estimated the fire area at about 2,500 square meters. It said flames reached an apartment building, a private home, outbuildings and industrial premises, while multi-story homes, garages and passenger cars also sustained damage.

The reported injury count rose in successive updates: Ukrinform reported two injured people early on, Interfax-Ukraine later cited four, and the SES put the count at five.

Police, volunteers and municipal services joined emergency and medical crews at the scene as the risk of further strikes persisted, the SES said. Psychologists from the agency also supported residents affected by the attack.

Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov said three of the injured were hospitalized. Reuters, citing Ukraine’s emergency service, reported that the fire was extinguished.
