A school in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region has identified a teacher and her daughter killed in a drone strike on a park Monday, Oct. 19, that police said left six people dead.
Novovodolazkyi Lyceum No. 1 named primary school teacher Inna Mariukhna and her 1-year-old daughter, Angelina, among the victims. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Angelina was in a stroller when she was killed and Mariukhna later died in a hospital. Another girl was among the dead.
Ukraine’s National Police said four adults and two children were killed. Fifteen people were injured, including seven children. Police also reported damage to a cafe, a car and nearby homes.
Police are investigating the strike on the park under Ukraine’s war crimes statute. The Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office said its preliminary assessment identified the drone as a Geran-3.
The U.N. Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recorded 328 civilian deaths and 2,105 injuries nationwide in September 2026. The combined toll was 85% higher than in September 2025, with long-range missiles and drones causing the most casualties, the mission said.
Zelenskyy called on Ukraine’s partners to provide more air defenses and maintain sanctions on Russia.
