United Airlines Boeing 787-9 Makes Emergency Landing in Los Angeles After Possible Engine Fire

United Airlines Boeing 787-9 Makes Emergency Landing in Los Angeles After Possible Engine Fire.

A United Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after departing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday following a possible engine fire, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the airline. The aircraft, operating as United Airlines Flight 2127 and bound for Newark Liberty International Airport, returned safely to Los Angeles at approximately 2:20 p.m. ET (1920 GMT).

The incident prompted the FAA to briefly issue a ground stop at LAX, temporarily halting departing flights. Although the ground stop was later lifted, officials warned of continued arrival delays of up to 30 minutes as airport operations worked to recover from the disruption. The emergency landing drew attention after videos circulated on social media showing smoke coming from the aircraft’s left engine and airport fire crews spraying it with water.

Passengers aboard the wide-body jet were evacuated on a taxiway using emergency slides as a precautionary measure. United Airlines confirmed that the aircraft experienced a possible engine fire but emphasized that there were no reported injuries among the 256 passengers and 12 crew members on board. Travelers were transported by bus back to the terminal while the aircraft was inspected.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is a long-haul aircraft commonly used on transcontinental and international routes. Boeing did not immediately comment on the incident. The FAA is expected to investigate the cause of the suspected engine issue as part of standard aviation safety procedures.

The quick response by the flight crew and emergency teams ensured passenger safety, while airport officials worked to minimize operational disruptions at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
