CBS News reported that Wanying Zhang pleaded not guilty Friday to one count of acting in the United States as an unregistered agent of the Chinese government, with trial set for Nov. 30.

The 34-year-old Southern California realtor entered the plea in a Los Angeles federal courtroom, CBS reported. The allegations concern surveillance of the son of Taiwan's president near Seattle in September 2025. Prosecutors also allege Zhang conspired with Chinese intelligence officials in an operation they described as a spying mission, according to the report.

CBS said Zhang was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport earlier this month as she tried to travel to China.

A federal courthouse in Santa Ana is set to host the trial, which CBS estimates will take about four days. The next court date is a pretrial hearing on Nov. 12, the outlet reported.
