AURORA, Ill., April 26, 2017 -- Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:WSTL), a leading provider of high-performance wireless infrastructure solutions, announced today general availability of the newest member of a portfolio of in-building wireless coverage solutions designed to meet all applicable NFPA requirements for powering Public Safety RF Signal Boosters.
The PS-BBU-01 is a compact battery back-up unit used to provide up to 24 hours run-time for public safety repeater solutions. Local and remote monitoring is provided to ensure visibility to battery health. In addition to meeting NFPA standards, the unit can be used with public safety signal boosters that meet future First Responder Network (FirstNet) requirements.
“Reliable back-up power for communication networks is never more critical than in public safety applications,” said Mike Moran, Senior Vice President, In-Building Wireless at Westell. “The PS-BBU-01 is a key element in ensuring that police, firefighters, and other first responders can effectively communicate in emergency situations.”
The output PS-BBU-01 is NFPA compliant, UL approved, and provided in a NEMA 4 red enclosure. The unit accepts 120/240 volt AC power input and delivers 120 volt AC output. Batteries are customer sourced. The battery back-up unit is the newest member of a portfolio of products for public safety communications that includes the PS71090 2-watt Public Safety Signal Booster and the PS51080 half-watt Public Safety Signal Booster. Westell plans on introducing additional products for public safety later in 2017.
