iGaming has a presence across the globe but there are some regions where online gambling is proving to be more popular than others. Continue below as we highlight the biggest iGaming markets globally.
United States
There was a time when the United States lagged behind many countries in terms of iGaming due to the regulations in place that prevented legal online gambling. There are still some states where iGaming is illegal but there are many states that have legalized and regulated online gambling in recent years. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are two states that led the way in state-level online gambling regulations and other states followed in their footsteps. The projected iGaming revenue in the United States for 2025 is $9 billion and this figure is based on the revenue from seven states in which online casinos can operate legally. With United States already at the top of the pile for iGaming revenue, it is exciting to think of how much growth there is still to come in the US and no other country is going to be able to compete.
United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is home to one of the longest established online gambling markets in the world. Strict iGaming legislation has been in place for many years and has allowed registered iGaming companies to thrive in the country. The United Kingdom Gambling Commission has played a significant role in the development of iGaming in the UK, ensuring it is safe. That gives consumers confidence and the iGaming market in the UK is projected to deliver $6 billion in revenue in 2025. The iGaming market is stable in the UK, it is unlikely we will ever see huge increases in revenue year-on-year but a market that will grow gradually.
Australasia
Thanks to the creation of the and Media Authority (ACMA) and a move to regulate online gambling in New Zealand with a new licensing system, the iGaming market in Australasia is on an upward trend. The current iGaming scene in New Zealand is not regulated in the same way as the United Kingdom or the regulated states in the US. However, it is possible to use an offshore casino online in New Zealand without any problem and many of the casinos are excellent. Simply because an online casino has a license from outside the country, does not mean it should be avoided and that is a common misconception when it comes to iGaming. Many of the world’s best online casinos are regulated in countries outside of where they offer their services.
The projected revenue for the Australasian iGaming industry is expected to be over $2 billion in 2025. The market growth is moderate as there are still some question marks of the future of licensing and regulation. However, the iGaming market continues to be popular with locals and is only going to improve with clear guidelines in place over the next few years.
Some of the other significant iGaming markets globally include Brazil, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Sweden, and Spain.
