Artificial intelligence could make public blockchain activity easier to scrutinize, raising the stakes around financial privacy, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, co-founders of Winklevoss Capital, said in an interview that aired Oct. 20.
They contrasted that prospect with Bitcoin (BTC), whose ledger is public, and Zcash (ZEC), which lets users shield transaction details. When shielding is used, addresses, amounts and memo contents are encrypted. Transparent addresses leave holdings and transaction histories visible, making privacy a choice for Zcash users rather than a network-wide default.
The twins’ investment firm has a financial connection to ZEC through Cypherpunk Technologies. In October 2025, Cypherpunk completed a $58,888,888 private placement led by Winklevoss Capital. Cypherpunk held 323,394.38 ZEC on Aug. 11, 2026, equivalent to about 1.92% of Zcash’s circulating supply.
Blockchain tracing shows that some transfers can be followed into Zcash, though it does not establish how common that activity is. Bitquery traced 4,546 ZEC linked to the reported Oct. 9 CryptoBilis-related theft into the network, as described in EconoTimes’ earlier account of Bitquery’s tracing. That trail does not show how often thieves use Zcash.
