Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked U.S. envoys at talks in Oslo on Tuesday to take ideas developed with European leaders to Russia ahead of envoy Steve Witkoff’s planned visit there Wednesday.
Witkoff attended in Oslo, while U.S. envoy Jared Kushner joined by video from the United States, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said. Støre said Ukraine had requested their participation. Zelenskyy also met with Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Zelenskyy’s office said the leaders discussed plans to rebuild Ukraine after the war and security in Europe, along with sanctions targeting Russia. Støre said the meetings were intended to advance diplomatic efforts.
In a CBS News interview, Ukrainian parliament member Halyna Yanchenko urged President Donald Trump to use his creativity to help end the war. Her appeal followed Trump’s suggestion that someone other than Zelenskyy should negotiate for Ukraine on Monday.
Zelenskyy said Russia had continued its attacks despite Ukraine’s support for an energy ceasefire. He said Witkoff would visit Russia on Wednesday and brief Ukraine afterward.
