Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Germany to take a greater role in European security, saying Europe must expand its global influence as the U.S. role may diminish.

At the Berlin Security Conference, Zelenskyy said Europe could not assume a larger role without Germany's involvement, Anadolu Agency reported. He also called for European cooperation to develop and protect satellite communications systems, including alternatives to Starlink. “Because the key question is who controls the on and off buttons,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy credited U.S. assistance with saving Ukrainian lives and said European support had been vital to Ukraine's survival. In a later meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, he discussed joint efforts with the United States to advance peace in Ukraine, Anadolu Agency reported.

Representatives of the United States, NATO, Europe and Ukraine were scheduled to meet in Brussels on Wednesday, Zelenskyy said. Zelenskyy said Kyiv was preparing for a meeting in the United Arab Emirates. EconoTimes previously reported Nov. 10-11 talks could lead to a leaders’ meeting.
