Zeppelin, an open-source framework to build secure smart contracts, has published a framework proposal and development roadmap for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) focused on security, modularity, and code reusability.
“We’ll make use of our 4+ years of experience working with smart contracts, having built applications (Proof of Existence, Streamium) and libraries (Bitcore) in the blockchain space. We plan to make money by offering services and security audits to users of the framework,” Zeppelin said in a blog post on Medium.
Since Ethereum is the most popular smart contract development platform currently, the company is starting with Solidity tools. According to the company, working with Solidity will make its tools compatible with Rootstock and some private blockchain systems like IBM’s Blue Horizon.
The company is planning to implement some modules and components for Solidity that includes pull payment helpers, fault tolerance and automatic bug bounties, contract life-cycle tools, reusable basic components, better oracle interfaces, among others. The company already has the details in GitHub issue tracker.
Zeppelin is open-source and MIT licensed. Zeppelin is designed for easy collaborations and the company seeks developers, security researchers and entrepreneurs, those who are working with or interested in smart contracts and blockchain technology to join in its team.
“It’s [Zeppelin is] meant to provide secure, tested and audited code to enable the new generation of distributed applications, protocols and organizations. Zeppelin is a community effort to reduce the hurdle to develop and use them,” it added.
In the forthcoming months, Zeppelin will explore new use cases and business models that are impossible to accomplish using traditional corporations.
