Ukrainian officials reported separate casualty counts after a Shahed drone hit a private home in Zhytomyr on Oct. 22, with their statements differing on the number of people injured.

Vitalii Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, said nine people were injured, including two children. He said two of them were taken to a regional hospital.

Regional police reported that eight people — two children and six adults — had been wounded by 1 p.m. EDT (17:00 UTC), corresponding to 8 p.m. EEST, on Oct. 22. Both accounts included two injured children, but Bunechko’s figure was one higher. The statements did not explain the difference.

Police said the strike damaged private homes, an apartment building and nearby parked cars. Emergency and rescue teams were at the scene. Police described Zhytomyr as the regional center of the oblast.

Bunechko blamed Russia for the attack and said, “Russia continues its deliberate terror against the peaceful Zhytomyr Oblast.”
