Alexandre Hocquet

Professeur des Universités en Histoire des Sciences, Université de Lorraine
Alexandre Hocquet is a former computational chemist academic and now a professeur des universités in history of science at the Université de Lorraine and a member of the laboratory Archives Henri-Poincaré. His focus is on STS, particularly the relationships between software and production of knowledge with works on computational chemistry but also Wikipedia and Football Manager. Methodologically, his works rely on the analysis of threaded conversations in web forums or mailing lists.

Historien des sciences aux Archives Poincaré (UMR 7117) je m'intéresse aux conditions de production de la science computationnelle. Mon axe de recherche consiste par une approche de « Science and Technology Studies » à m'interroger sur les relations entre le théoricien et l'ordinateur, en particulier en quoi l'importance croissante du logiciel a modifié les pratiques scientifiques de la communauté. Du point de vue de l'objet, mes travaux portent sur la modélisation et le logiciel, ce sont des "Software Studies", et du point de vue méthodologique, ils consistent en une forme d'ethnographie « en ligne », en particulier sur des corpora de « conversations en fil ».
Par extension, mes objets d'étude (Wikipédia, Football Manager...) ont tous pour point commun les relations entre software, épistémologie et politique par l'analyse des débats en ligne de communautés.
Enseignant, je développe d'une part un cours "Sciences et sociétés" dont la pédagogie a pour ambition d'enseigner les STS par la pratique, en faisant choisir aux étudiants des cas d'étude, et d'autre part un cours "Wikipédia culture numérique", qui est expliqué ici même. https://theconversation.com/enseigner-wikipedia-par-les-anecdotes-73537
