I am Professor of Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, specializing in the history of modern philosophy and recent continental philosophy. I have published widely on Spinoza, Kant, and Deleuze, particularly in their connections to art, nature, and politics. I am currently working on a book on Spinoza and Equality.
Previous books include Kant and Spinozism: Transcendental Idealism and Immanence from Jacobi to Deleuze (2011) and Spinoza's Ethics: an Edinburgh Philosophical Guide (2010). I am the editor of Spinoza's Philosophy of Ratio (2018) and Spinoza Beyond Philosophy (2012), and co-editor of the Bloomsbury Companion to Continental Philosophy (2009).
